Tips for Single Parents

July 14, 2007

Prioritize. Learn to say No. Steal some time for yourself.Don’t be too proud to ask for help.Don’t be too proud to accept help.Listen to those people around you that have been there, done that and got the t-shirt to prove it.Don’t let anyone tell you what you can and can’t do.Don’t let this stop you from trying to acheive your dreams and goals. You’ve just got to be more creative in trying to accomplish your goals because you have someone other than yourself to think about now.Get a good life insurance policy.I know this sounds kind of obvious, but you have got to take care of yourself, because you are all that your child has. This means you have to go to the doctor, eat, work out, sleep(yeah right what’s that?).Above all else, make sure you have some people around you that you can lean on when times get hard.

How To Entertain A Child While Working From A Home Office

July 13, 2007

There is no doubt that the benefits of being a work-at-home parent outweigh the drawbacks. However, some days can prove to be difficult when your two year-old is determined to climb on top of your filing cabinet while you’re trying to participate in an important conference call. Here are ten tips that can help make your life easier, and your little ones happier, while you work at home.

Set up a little desk for your tiny assistant in your home office, close enough for you to keep an eye on him, but far enough away for you to focus on your work.

Tell your child that he is your personal assistant-in-training and emphasize what a big deal it is for him to have this title and his own work area.

Provide your child with some tools similar to those on your desk. Carefully select only the safest items that are virtually indestructible. Your child’s active imagination and natural curiosity can easily lead to disaster if he gets his hands on the wrong gadget.

Assign your new assistant with important job responsibilities. Young children love to imitate adults, especially their parents. Depending upon what type of business you operate from home, you can dream up duties that mirror what your child watches you do every day.

How to Prepare for Labor

July 12, 2007

Although nothing anybody says can ever completely prepare a woman for the day she delivers her first baby, there are some simple suggestions that should help make this amazing experience a little bit easier.

First of all there are three very honest realities about childbirth that your doctor, mother, grandmother, and maybe even your best friend will probably not tell you.

1 - Unless you have an exceptionally carefree attitude about life in general, you will be shocked if and when your water breaks.

2 - Unless you have an extraordinary ability to see into the future, you will be scared to death during the first hour or so of labor.

3 - Unless you have an extremely high tolerance for pain, you will feel excruciating, seemingly unending waves of pain.

These simple facts come from personal experience and are not intended to instill unnecessary fear. Each woman’s experience is different, so not all details will apply to everyone. But if you take the time to consider options to prepare yourself for that big day, you may benefit by being as ready as anyone can possibly be for the consequences of childbirth.

College Bound: The Organized Dorm

July 10, 2007

I can still remember my shopping list for my first dorm room. Years ago we kept it simple — the must have storage staple was the old dairy crate and that was pretty much it. Those dairy crates organized everything from sweaters and sweatshirts to books. Today the storage choices are almost unlimited (although the budget may not be…), so outfitting a dorm room or first apartment can be a bit overwhelming. I have asked our summer intern (a college student) to share some organizing challenges she has experienced first hand. We have divided the typical college living space into 5 areas:

- Common area - Kitchen and bath area Desk - Bedroom or sleeping area - The always too small and functionally challenged closet. - Common Area

Question: "A lot of dorm rooms are small and have one common area. What would you suggest to help students keep their common area organized? Also, can you suggest some useful products for storing food, movies, and CDs?"

Answer: Common areas can be a tricky, because you have now entered the zone where your belongings are community property. I would suggest a minimalist approach. If it is for a dorm, keep it simple and portable. There are inexpensive multimedia racks, drawers and even cubes (the "new" dairy crate!) available for storing CDs and movies.

Fully Prepare Any Student For Class

Fully Prepare Any Student For Class
 by: Scott Palat

These six steps will help you prepare for class and as a result, you will become more and more confident every time you enter the classroom. In time, you will feel excited about going to class and your grades will drastically improve. Remember that attitude is everything and you must start today by changing your attitude about class. Being prepared for the classroom will certainly help.

1. Pre-read material in your text before class. Having some

exposure to the material will make it much easier to follow

along with what the teacher says.

2. Review past material. Understanding what you did in

previous classes will make it much easier to make

connections to new material.

3. Make a list of questions that you may have from the

previous day’s activities or homework. Try to get all

questions resolved before moving on.

4. Do your homework. At least try each and every problem

and make notes when you don’t understand something. At

least the teacher will know that you tried.

Ten Helpful Little Tips For New Parents

July 9, 2007

The Greatest Gifts in Life, which are always created for free, but never come with instructional guide, are your children. The following suggestions may help any new parents feeling blessed by the birth of their first baby, but also feeling overwhelmed by this wondrous experience.

1 - You cannot love, hug, kiss, cuddle, or hold your newborn too much. He needs your affection to feel safe in a world that’s all new to him.

2 - This tiny person is totally dependent on you for everything in his life. He cannot survive without you.

3 - Establish a routine. Your baby needs to be able to count on certain activities occurring around the same time each day. Feeding, naps, fun and affection should be a part of every schedule.

4 - Sleepless nights may seem never-ending as your newborn awakens you with his cries. But time will fly by and your baby won’t be a baby for long. Treasure each moment of this experience.

5 - Nobody can teach you how to be a parent. You will learn on the job. Trust your instincts. Nobody knows your baby better than you.

Have Fun Purchasing A Stroller For Your Baby

July 8, 2007

You are getting ready to welcome your baby into your life and one of the items you are considering is a stroller. Strollers come in various styles, features and brands. If you have a newborn you want to be sure the seat fully reclines so your newborn can lie flat. Consider what strollers will need assembly once you purchase it. The restraint system on most strollers is the 5 point restraint; two at the shoulders, two at the hips, and one at the crotch. Be sure to use the restraint system as recommended by the manufacturer for your baby’s safety.

You can go through any department store or look in any catalog and can be overwhelmed by all the available choices. You must take into account your personal preferences and the next is your budget. What price range can you afford? They can run anywhere from $30.00 to over $300.00 or more. How are you going to use your stroller? Is it just for around town or walking in the mall or do you plan to go off-road with it? If it’s just walking around town or the mall a traditional type stroller will work well for you. The same stroller will not work well if you are taking your child off-roading with you. They have strollers with special wheels to allow you take your baby almost anywhere.

The Scientific Breakthrough That Allows Every Couple To Choose The Gender Of Their Baby

July 7, 2007

The advances in science over the past century have been breath-taking. We’ve seen man stroll casually on the moon, watched in awe as scientists cloned and brought a sheep to life using nothing more than a few strands of microscopic DNA and we witnessed some stunning improvements in the fields of medicine and care ? for example, Viagra to some has been the discovery of a lifetime.

Now, it seems, the latest scientifically backed research actually allows a couple to safely and naturally choose the gender of their baby with up to 98% accuracy. The implications of this research are huge and most couples whether they admit it or not would probably prefer one gender of child over the other. This is not at all a bad thing and there are several reasons for this. Perhaps a family with 3 little boys would like to "complete" their family with a lovely baby girl. Until now it has always been wishful thinking and fate has been the ultimate decider ? but today, every couple who wish to can choose the gender of their child with a 98% chance of getting the gender of child they would like ? and the best thing is that it is completely safe, natural and free. So what are these factors?
