Imagine having no television for an entire season. Such was the case for a friend, whose mother hauled the appliance right out of the house at the start of every summer. Surprisingly, Ola and her siblings didn’t miss it, as they managed to keep themselves busy in other ways. And, today, Ola is glad her mother maintained that annual tradition, as she learned not to rely on TV to keep her entertained. She and her two young daughters also tend to be more physically active than other families she knows ? something she attributes directly to the amount of active play she engaged in as a child.
Could today’s families survive as well without the "tube?" And, if forced to go without (say, during TV-Turnoff Week: this year April 25 - May 1), would they be physically active or simply resort to another form of electronic entertainment?

If you are like most people today, you do not have a will. The reasons for this failure are many, with the most common being along the lines of "I don’t have enough assets to worry about", "I don’t know how to write a will", or "Lawyers charge a lot of money".
Here’s my answer to the last two ? buy a software package that helps you draw up your own will and follow the forms. This software will ask you a series of questions and you supply the answers. When you are done, you have a piece of paper ready to be signed; witnessed and placed somewhere it can be found in the event you die.
As for your lack of asset objection, that might be true if you live in a cardboard box, with only the clothes on your back, as the last surviving member of your family. If this does not describe you, than you do have assets and you really should make preparations for dispersing them when you die.

INTRODUCTION
In June 1997,the Prime Minister of Singapore unveiled the Government’s vision of ‘Thinking Schools, Learning Nation’ (TSLN). This vision was forged to improve Singapore’s education system in the light of the rapid changes around the world. The Government foresees that Singapore, with its limited natural resources, can only continue to progress by nurturing a knowledgeable workforce that is adaptable to the changes in the world economy. More importantly, the Government realized that it had to start preparing the nation for these inevitable changes by revamping the education system in accordance with the vision of TSLN.
The Ministry of Education (MOE) in Singapore, the state agency responsible for the undertaking of this vision, states the goals of TSLN as follows:
Thinking Schools ensure that we equip students with skills and knowledge and values and instincts to face future challenges, while Learning Nation aims to promote a culture of continual learning beyond the school environment. (MOE, 1998,p.16)

The brightly colored plastic mobile dangles lazily overhead in the infant’s crib. The baby coos as its tiny arms swing a rattle back and forth. In another room a pre-school youngster is busy assembling the pieces of a jigsaw puzzle and upstairs a teen is conquering worlds on a computerized video game. What do all of these activities have in common? They are examples of children playing with educational toys.
It seems that a home with children is a home full of toys. Parents want children to have happy, healthy childhoods. Toys are a big part of growing up. But, with stores filled with toys and games many parents begin to question which of these toys are appropriate and which toys will help their children develop normally? These are good questions.
There is no doubt that toys are a normal part of childhood. Kids have played with toys of some kind for as long as there have been children. It is also quite true that toys play a significant role in the development of the child. The types of toys with which a child plays often have a strong influence on the child’s adult interests and behavior.

Having a baby is one of the most exciting times of your life. It is also one of the most stressful. So many decisions have to be made about nearly every aspect of your baby’s comfort, safety, and happiness. You spend hours pouring over pregnancy and child rearing books, picking out the perfect crib, finding the most adorable and comfortable clothing, and envisioning the safest and most peaceful birth for your baby as possible. No doubt somewhere in your planning you have thought about how many diapers you will need for your new little one and perhaps you have even purchased some in advance. If you are like the majority of parents out there, then you have automatically decided upon disposable diapers without ever giving it a second thought. Stop right there! There is an alternative; consider using cloth diapers.
Cloth diapering today is not what it used to be. When many parents think of cloth diapers they think of flat diapers that need to be folded in several, origami-like folds and fastened with diaper pins before they are covered with plastic pull on pants. Generally they also think that the clean-up involved with using cloth diapers would be tedious and messy. Cloth diapers have been stereotyped and it seems as though many parents have missed the total evolution of the cloth diaper that has occurred over the past decade or so. I know, because I was one of them.

As children are growing from todddlerhood to childhood parents are very aware and concerned about their child’s development. One of the most grieved about concern is the development of speech. If you find that your child’s gurgles are not developing into “mama” and “dada” within a short period of time, this will cause anxiety for most.
Your child is two years old and is still not talking. She says a few words but in comparison to her siblings and other children her age she is way behind. You will probably try to explain it away various excuses, hoping the child will catch up. Some children are early walkers some are early talkers, so you will tell yourself there is nothing to worry about. Unless there are other areas of slowness in the child’s development parents will hesitate to seek medical advice.
If this is becoming a worry you should contact your family doctor. Your doctor may refer you to a speech therapist. A speech therapist is a health professional trained to evaluate and treat people who have speech, language voice or swallowing disorders that will effect their ability to communicate.
Guilty of Not Following Her Heart

Karen, a single never-married thirty-year old attorney has a four-year old daughter, whom she just picked up from her parents’ home after another all-day affair in court.
Like every Thursday, Karen took her daughter, Anna, to McDonald’s for dinner, which was a very special mother-daughter bonding time. Karen ordered a salad for her and a kid’s meal for Anna. To Anna’s delight, the kid’s meal came with some crayons. While they were eating, Anna turned over the paper trayliner and began to draw a circle with some numbers just inside the perimeter of the circle. Instead of staring out the window like she usually did, Karen looked at what Anna was drawing.
"Whatcha drawin’ sweetie?" Karen asked. "A clock," Anna said. "Are you sure it’s a clock? It’s got more than twelve numbers in the circle." "I know, Mommy. It’s a clock for you. You said there’s not enough time in the day."
Tears formed in Karen’s eyes.
