Baby clothes are one of the most popular types of gifts for new and expectant parents at a baby shower. Shopping for baby apparel and baby stuff is something a lot of people especially new parents enjoy.

Baby boutique clothing is one of the most popular baby shower gifts you can buy. If you live in a larger town or city. There is bound to be many baby boutiques in your area. Baby boutique clothing is an especially nice gift when you purchase a fancy little outfit. The parents might not normally choose to buy this for their baby.

Most Colleges Require Letters Of Recommendation

June 29, 2010

I cannot overemphasize the importance of developing strong relationships with high school teachers and counselors as early as possible. An extremely well written, all-telling letter can absolutely make the difference of being accepted or rejected to any college.

Students at the top of one or more of their classes should first ask those teachers to write a letter of recommendation (LOR). However, if a teacher balks, is the least bit hesitant or shows no enthusiasm about the prospect of writing such a letter, another teacher, one who is likely to make the student shine, should be approached instead. A less than exemplary LOR is virtually worthless!

Chose wisely. I often review LOR’s for content and grammar, and am constantly amazed at how careless and lax some teachers, counselors and other well-intentioned people can be with a letter of such great importance! Choose teachers who have expressed a genuine interest in the student’s future.

Most schools require LOR’s from guidance counselors, and some ask for one or more from the student’s English, Science and/or Math teachers. Additional LOR’s, letters other than those requested on the school’s application, are also recommended. I suggest no more than two extras, unless a third is absolutely extraordinary.

Playground Pettiness

June 28, 2010

Recently I took my two children to a popular new park in the area. It’s a beautiful new playground, all wood, divided into different areas of play for different age groups. It’s wonderful for me as well, as my children can play at age appropriate areas and I can see/interact with both of them at the same time. This is what makes it our entire family’s favorite playground, as well that for many other families in the area.

When we arrived at the park this particular day, there was only one other family there. It was extremely hot, and I told my kids we’d only be able to stay for a small amount of time. I wanted them to wear themselves out a bit, but not pass out. I assumed my normal location on a wooden bench and settled down, knowing that I would be able to see and hear whatever my children were doing. It didn’t take long before I noticed a problem.

Pin the Tail on the Oil Donkey

Pin the Tail on the Oil Donkey
 by: Austin Culley

For all your kids out there trying to come up with an essay topic to write about, why not bump those grades up by doing a little research on oil. Not peanut butter oil, or olive oil, but oil - the kind that helps to run the car you hope to one day drive.

Donkeys

Now, first of all, what exactly is an Oil Donkey? Well, it’s actually called a Nodding Donkey, and what a Nodding Donkey does is help pump oil out of the ground so that we can get our paws on it. You can find a good picture of one of these donkeys at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nodding_donkey. As a matter of fact, outside of this article, you could probably find a whole lot of information about oil, otherwise known as petroleum, at this Wiki Web Site. It’s a great resource for information.

Dinosaurs and Diatoms

Oil is considered a “Fossil Fuel”, meaning that it is an organic substance that comes from the fossils of animals who have long parted the earth. Many people think this means that oil comes from dead dinosaurs; however, it is more likely that oil was formed from the bodies of very small creatures such as diatoms and foraminifera.

Achieve Success At School - Parents, Help Your Kids Easily Be Top, Honor-Roll Students!

June 27, 2010

With the beginning of the new school year coming VERY soon, here are some tips to give us a "heads-up" to start the year off knowing what to do.

Three tips to have your kids Achieve Success At School:

1.) Turn off the T.V. At our house, we have an understanding that we don’t really have time during the week to watch T.V. (of course, we can be a little flexible if there’s a special, long-awaited educational show on PBS!)

2.) Be Prepared. Have backpack, pens, pencils, paper, folders, pocket dictionary, planner and anything else that would be useful. (The teacher would be an excellent person to ask.) At night, before getting ready for bed, all backpacks are packed-up with all books, papers, signed items, planner, completed homework, ?and placed close to the door ready to be grabbed up in the morning on the way out.

3.) Follow the Schedule. There’s a daily and weekly schedule in every classroom. In most classrooms, weekly spelling and vocabulary words are given out on Mondays and the Spelling Tests are on Fridays. By simply being aware of the weekly "flow" of the classroom, you’ll come to find that there are few surprises-assemblies, field trips, and guest speakers?

Tips For a First-Time Dad

June 26, 2010

So you’re going to become a father. Now is not the time to panic. You’ve got lots of time to get used to the idea, before that new life you helped create, arrives to join your own. These tips for a first-time Dad will help you to survive the pre-baby and post-birth jitters.

Be supportive of your partner during the pregnancy. Some women have a more difficult time than others, and the fluctuation of hormones can bring on everything from mood swings to what seems to be unreasonable irritation with you, and everything else. While you may not understand her moods, remember that they are transient, and weather them in whatever way works best for you both. She may be irritated, but would appreciate a simple gesture like flowers, a foot rub, or even a cup of tea without having to get up. You’ll find your own paths to peace, as the pregnancy progresses.

When the baby arrives, don’t be upset if you don’t fall in love immediately. You’re excited to be a father, but often men think they are failing in some respect, when they don’t feel the same overwhelming bond that a mother does. But you didn’t carry another life inside you for nine months. So one of the best tips for a first-time Dad, is to give yourself time to love, and be loved back.

The Power of Homeschooling

The Power of Homeschooling
 by: Reverend Brenda Hoffman

There are 3 powerful reasons why homeschooling works. These include:

(1.) Homeschooling enables exposure to a broad range of people, ideas, and places. Homeschooling is so flexible that it allows family field trips whenever you want. This provides a great way to learn through taking tours, meeting knowledgeable people, and volunteering. What is even better is that you can take advantage of these opportunities during the week when there aren’t crowds and when the tour guides, or educators, have time to answer your individual questions. Add in some library books and videos, the writing of thank you notes, the writing of a portfolio entry describing your “adventure,” and the possibility of giving an oral presentation to other homeschoolers and you’ll see just how powerful this can truly be. This also teaches your child(ren) that there are great teachers to be found in every walk of life.

(2.) If you own your own home business, homeschooling provides opportunities to teach your child(ren) business skills. Starting a home business today is relatively easy and painless. Involving your child(ren) in your home business is an excellent opportunity to teach them skills which will serve them well in any livelihood they might choose as adults. Just think of the various business opportunities that avail themselves. For instance, you can teach your child(ren) how to do basic bookkeeping on the computer.

June 23, 2010

Finding the best car seats for your child: To escape injury in an accident, you will need to pick a seat suitable for the child’s age and weight. They come in three main categories: infant, infant & toddler convertible and booster seats. Statistics show that most seats are installed incorrectly. Once you have purchased a seat make sure to follow the directions for proper installation.

The disadvantage to buying an infant seat is that you will have to buy a convertible seat after your child reaches 20 pounds. An infant seat will cost between $60 and $150. If you are willing to spend more, there are plenty of extra options to choose from.
